£7,000 TO JUMP
OFF A CLIFF

Nearly 100 charity supporters took the plunge last month at Adrenalin Quarry, raising nearly £7,000 in the Cornwall Hospice Care Zip Wire challenge. Strapped into a safety harness, each daring participant leapt 150ft above the quarry lake and flew 500m down the longest Zip Wire in the UK.

‘The view from the top was absolutely stunning. I was a bit nervous when I stepped onto the platform for the first time, but once I was in the air I forgot all about it!’ said Jo Williams of St Austell.

LEAP OF FAITH

At 87, the oldest adrenalin junkie was Reverend Ted Barton of Malpas, Truro, a volunteer at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice. He wasn't phased by the leap.

‘The whole experience was very enjoyable. Not half as terrifying as I thought it might be. My son was able to ride down right next to me on the other wire, which was wonderful,’ said Ted.

THE FEARLESS
FLOCKED IN

People signed up to the challenge from across Cornwall and beyond with some even coming from Bristol and London in support.

‘We're delighted with the success of the Zip Wire Challenge. Several hundred spectators also joined in the fun, watching people fly across the water while enjoying the entertainment lakeside. It was a great day out and we're extremely grateful to everyone for making it such a success,’ said Karen Holman, Cornwall Hospice Care’s Event Organiser.

‘The team at Adrenalin Quarry were first class and really added to the enjoyment of the day. It was great to see so many families enjoying themselves in the fabulous sunshine, whether it was having a go at juggling, laughing at the clown, watersports on the lake or just savouring a proper cream tea. There were smiley faces all round!’

‘We had a fantastic afternoon in such a beautiful setting. Kayaking on the lake was a real treat for my nephew. I’m definitely coming again next year!’ said Tiffany Pope of Camborne.

CHARITIES FACE

ENVIRONMENT

The Zip Wire Challenge raised funds for Cornwall Hospice Care, which provides adult care at St Julia’s Hospice in Hayle and Mount Edgcumbe Hospice in St Austell. With limited help from the government, the charity is reliant on local community support for
its survival.
