2016 in the water at Adrenalin Quarry Cornwall

Last year the Coasteering team suffered a lot of damage before the season really got moving and we never got off the back foot. We've learnt over the years that if the coasteer guides aren't rested properly then they end up carrying injuries all year.

Torn muscles, dislocations, broken fingers, perforated eardrums, sinus infections you name it. Nobody said the smile business would be easy. Net result is that  it limits the team that we can put in the water on any one day which in turn limits how many people we can put into a session.

In 2015 we could only run two sessions of 14 people a day for most of the season. We learn fast. This year we been able to run three sessions of 21 people a day mainly by keeping the team safe and well. It's not so much changing what we do in the water as changing the reporting so that we know what's happening and can give the guys and girls a break, (even when they don't want one). Result all round.

We moved the Ladder jump closer to Crypt and the Widow jump, and built a decent platform off the rock shelf.  We also built a new jump closest to the Blob (Spider), big enough for two people to jump off at the same time. Good overhang, not too high at about 5m, and close to the other jumps. Less long swims, more action.

We also had a rethink with the surface anchors that hold all the gear in place when it's stormy. We found a way of getting them out of the way and back up quicker so we could go coasteering in stormy weather without getting so much damage to the blob, the blob tower or the pontoon.  We had less back injuries from moving the anchors by having a purpose built floating platform with a hole in the middle and a winch. Better.
All in all it’s been a brilliant year for Coasteering at Adrenalin Quarry, for the first time it’s overtaken The Giant Swing for turnover, we’ve had less damage, added to the course and had more fun.
