Things to do in Cornwall on a rainy day (2016)

When it really is soaking

Lying in

This much neglected artform is an absolute winner on a wet day in Cornwall. It's cheap, it's fun, it requires skill, enthusiasm and dedication and it suits all pockets. Lazing in bed has got to be the most economic of holiday passtimes. There is a lot of waffle talked about technique and accessories but common sense tells us not much is needed to do solid job. A good book, a bottle of water and a companion can turn grey skies to blue with very little effort. Even the practice of solitary pleasures such as yawning, winking, eye crossing or even staring make great alternatives to the almost inevitable spendathon that is the Trago/city centre visit.

Visiting outdoor attractions

Another absolute winner on a wet day. Get there early, beat the queues, take advantage of the early bird discounts and strut round like you own the place. Wet weather in high season is an opportunity to negotiate on price and walk straight in the door. At Adrenalin Quarry we throw people off cliffs regardless of wind speed, precipitation,  visibility and UV levels. We take a certain savage pleasure exposing people to terrifying danger in horrible weather and although we are in the smile business, we feel that it's important in some respects not to take our mission too seriously and to give people an experience they won't easily forget even if they want to. Go Coasteering, Axe Throwing, Fly down The Zip, Ride The Giant Swing, we don’t care.

Responsible daytime drinking

is another absolute winner if you’re determined to do very little with the day. Brandy in your coffee followed  by cans of lager in bed whilst listening to the radio can while away a dismal day in the most pleasant fashion. Although I no way endorse this kind of behaviour as a lifestyle choice, a day of sozzled lack of commitment is another fine way of passing the time when skies are grey.

Arguing

On a serious note wet weather does bring the opportunity for massive family rows. This can be livened up no end by electing a conductor or a chairperson to pick specific subjects on which to disagree with each other in a childish and petulant fashion.

Politics sport and religion aside, the secret is to keep the subject matter of the family row as trivial as possible. It should be noted that orchestrating family rows and daytime drinking must never be combined in the same session unless your accommodation has a police station close at hand.

I hope these tips help your rainy days, let us know how you get on.
